The Summer holidays can drag on forever and you end up with the kids whining they’re bored for most of it. You’re tearing your hair out and counting down the days they go back to school! Not to mention the costs of trying to keep them entertained with days out, activities ect.. Having two kids myself I have already hunted down some free things to do this summer and thought I would share with you lovely lot to make your summer holidays less stressful and costly and more FUN and FREE!!

Ever heard of Geocaching? It’s fun FREE treasure hunting for all the family! There are millions of little boxes hidden all over the world and all you need to do to find them is download the free app and follow the GPS and clues! FREE Kids Bike Workshop
Every Wednesday in August Halfords are offering FREE bike workshops for kids. They will teach 7 to 11 year olds basic bike maintenance. CLICK HERE to book a slot at your local shop.

Make Your Own Puppet Show
Get a cardboard box (Ask at your local supermarket) Cut a hole at the front. You could even paint is if you wanted! Grab some bargain paints HERE. You can even get the finger puppets from only £1.50 HERE.
Make Your Own Play Doh
It’s so easy and cheap to make your own play-doh! You can even make it glow in the dark! See the full recipe and instructions HERE.
Bake CupCakes
The easiest recipe I now know off by heart is 4oz of flour,butter,sugar and 2 eggs! This will make 12 cupcakes. You can always double the amount to make 24. My kids have so much fun decorating their cupcakes. You can find so many cutters and decorating equipment really cheap from only 55p HERE.
Dress Up Play
Instead of paying huge amounts for dressing up clothes , Hunt around the charity shops and carboot sales to find second-hand clothes for the kids dressing up box. We have quite a big collection of big hats, shoes and all sorts of bits and bobs. You can get so much more for your money!

FREE Family Festivals
Eid festival on Trafalgar Square London, 25th July
Food festival offering a variety of cuisines from across the world and live music and performances to entertain the family. Children can get their faces painted, learn calligraphy, get a henna design and even play some sports. To top it all off this is all FREE!!

Notting Hill Carnival, London, 30th August
Notting Hill Carnival is famous for being Britain’s biggest street party! It’s a Parade for mainly Children who show off their extravagant costumes as they spin, whirl and twirl along the carnival route. Throughout the day, on almost every corner you can find tasty Caribbean food, drink and much more!

Air Shows, various locations around the UK
Enjoy watching the planes do all kinds of dare-devil stunts!
There will be free air shows in Bournemouth, Blackpool, Sunderland, Swansea, Dawlish, Eastbourne,Herne Bay, Clacton and Portrush.
Bristol Balloon Fiesta, 6th – 9th August
Every year in Bristol they hold a huge hot air balloon fiesta and this will be their 37th year! There will be four fantastic days of FREE family fun and games and amazing themed balloons including a giant minion!!

Bristol Harbour Festival, 17th, 18th and 19th July
The Bristol Harbour festival is another fantastic and free festival. Throughout the day there’s going to be circus acts, dance performers, arts, boats and much more for the family to enjoy. There will even be a children’s area with a village, tiny gardens and lots of activities.

The Big Cheese Festival, Caerphilly, 24th, 25th & 26th July
Caerphilly will be holding a big cheese event with music, dance, street entertainers, living history encampments and much, much more.

Cardiff Carnival, 8th August
There will be a daylong event in Cardiff that will include music from around the world, street theatre, Bollywood dancing, magic shows and lots more.

Riverside Festival, Nottingham, 31st July – 2nd August
Over three days the banks of the River Trent will be overflowing with attractions, stalls and family entertainment. There will even be a children’s zone with workshops, arts and crafts activities. On the Saturday night there will be a spectacular fireworks display planned! And of course it’s all FREEEEE

FREE Apple Workshops
three-day workshops where kids aged 8 to 12 bring their imaginations to life. They’ll learn to make movies or create interactive books complete with their own illustrations and sound effects. And each workshop ends with the Apple Summer Camp Showcase so kids can share their finished projects.
