Halloween Baking With Leftovers – CouponMamaUK

For those of you who don’t know, I am a huge fan of baking and I love to get creative with decorating my cakes. Being savvy minded, all my cakes are made on a budget and I cannot stand waste! When my cakes are cooled I always trim the tops to make them level ready for icing and I am always left with of cuts of cake and crumbs. Instead of throwing them away this is what I do…

Recently I made a huge rainbow cake so I was left with these colourful off cuts! All you need to do is crumble the off cuts until you have fine crumbs, add a dollop of butter icing (I still had some left over from the main cake) add a little bit at a time until cake is moist and can hold a ball shape, yet still slightly crumbly.

Break off the size you want for your cake pops. You don’t want them to be too heavy or they will just slide down the stick. Round them out with your hands and make sure that each one forms a perfect little ball.

Dip the ball in either icing or melted chocolate, this will help the fondant (roll out icing) stick to the cake ball. If you are using sticks then you also need to dip the stick in so that it stays in the ball and doesn’t slide down. I found this out the hard way :/

As Halloween is coming up I decided to make some mini pumpkins. Simply roll out the fondant, cut out a circle and cover the ball. Cut out mini triangles for the eyes and use a butter knife to make lines down the sides.
